Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon defends Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against President Biden's accusation that he is not doing enough to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Danon points out that Israel has repeatedly accepted US-backed proposals for a hostage deal while Hamas has refused.

President Joe Biden's recent claim that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not done enough to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza has drawn sharp criticism from the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon.

Danon emphasized that Israel has repeatedly accepted US-backed proposals for a hostage deal, while Hamas has consistently refused. On April 27th, Secretary of State Blinken acknowledged Israel's "extraordinary, generous offer." On May 31st, Israel agreed to a US-backed proposal, which Hamas rejected. On August 16th, Israel again agreed to a US proposal, which Hamas once more refused.

Biden's accusation, made after an 18-day vacation, is seen as a departure from his earlier vow that US support for Israel was "rock solid." However, Biden's recent pressure for an "immediate ceasefire" in Gaza, regardless of the consequences, has raised concerns about his commitment to Israel's security.

When informed of the deaths of six hostages, including a US citizen, Biden issued a statement blaming Hamas leaders but offering little concrete action. Critics argue that Biden's faltering support for Israel and pandering to the pro-Palestinian crowd have hindered Israel's efforts to combat Hamas and secure the release of hostages.

Danon expressed dismay at Biden's accusations, highlighting Israel's repeated willingness to negotiate and Hamas's intransigence. He questioned what had changed since April, when Secretary Blinken praised Israel's generosity in its hostage deal offers.

Some analysts attribute Biden's shift in stance to declining support for Israel among the Democratic Party's left wing, a voter base that Vice President Kamala Harris needs to win in November. Harris's own weak leadership is seen as exacerbating the situation, guided by polling rather than conviction.

Biden's and Harris's perceived weakness and fear have had negative consequences not only in Israel but also in Ukraine, China, and the Middle East. Their administration's timidity is seen as emboldening adversaries, leaving American troops vulnerable, and contributing to the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.

In contrast to Biden's policies, former President Donald Trump adopted a "peace through strength" approach, making clear that any aggression towards Americans would face severe repercussions. Trump's tough stance reduced Iran's capacity to foment war, intimidated China, and constantly negotiated from a position of strength.

During a meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago, Trump interrupted Xi's lecture about China's global dominance to announce that 59 Tomahawk missiles had destroyed Syria's Shayrat Airbase. The message was clear: do not mess with the US.

Similarly, Trump gave a veiled warning to the Taliban by showing a satellite image of their home, indicating that any harm to Americans would have dire consequences. These actions demonstrated that great power can be used to deter conflict and promote peace.

Biden and Harris, on the other hand, have failed to grasp the importance of strength in maintaining peace. They have invited Russian aggression by downplaying the consequences of a "minor incursion" into Ukraine. They have allowed Iran's oil exports to surge, providing funding for terrorist activities. And they have put US troops in danger by failing to enforce sanctions and adequately protect bases.

The contrast between Trump's policies and Biden's and Harris's ineptitude is stark. Israel's ambassador to the UN has rightfully challenged Biden's accusations, highlighting the failure of Hamas rather than Netanyahu. The choice for voters is clear: support Trump's strength and deterrence or continue down the path of appeasement and half-measures.
