The New York Knicks overcame a second-quarter setback due to Jalen Brunson's injury to defeat the Indiana Pacers in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. Brunson's return ignited a Knicks comeback, leading to a decisive 130-121 victory.
The New York Knicks faced adversity in Game 2 of their second-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers when star point guard Jalen Brunson left the court with an injury in the second quarter. But Brunson's return in the second half turned the tide, leading the Knicks to a crucial 130-121 win and a 2-0 lead in the series.
The Knicks initially struggled in Brunson's absence, as the Pacers took a 10-point lead by halftime. However, Brunson's presence on the court sparked a resurgence in the third quarter, where the Knicks outscored the Pacers 36-18 to regain control.
Brunson finished the game with 29 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals, demonstrating his resilience and leadership. He was supported by Obi Toppin's 28 points, Donte DiVincenzo's 28 points, and Isaiah Hartenstein's double-double of 12 rebounds and 14 points.
The Pacers, led by Tyrese Haliburton's 34 points, fought valiantly throughout the game. Haliburton's five three-pointers in the first half helped the Pacers build their lead, but the Knicks' defense adjusted in the second half, limiting his impact.
However, the Knicks were not without their own injury concerns. OG Anunoby left the game in the third quarter with a sore left hamstring, while Mitchell Robinson is expected to miss the rest of the playoffs with a re-injured ankle.
Despite these setbacks, the Knicks showcased their depth and determination, with Josh Hart contributing 15 rebounds and 19 points. The victory reinforced the Knicks' dominance at home, where they have yet to lose a playoff game this season.
The series now shifts to Indianapolis for Game 3 on Friday. The Pacers face an uphill battle, down 0-2, but they will be buoyed by their home crowd's support. For the Knicks, the victory serves as a testament to their resilience and the leadership of Brunson, who continues to defy expectations despite the physical challenges he faces.
