Hungry students at Florida International University (FIU) near Miami are being treated to a unique culinary experience, all thanks to a robot named Beastro. Beastro, the first robotic kitchen in a university setting, is the brainchild of Kitchen Robotics, a company with offices in Israel and Miami Lakes.

Beastro's creation was driven by the need for efficiency and consistency in campus dining. It has four induction plates and two rows of feeder tubes, allowing it to prepare up to four meals simultaneously. The robot chef takes orders from a kiosk where students can place their orders and receive a notification when their food is ready.

Denisse Castillo, FIU's senior director of residential dining, oversees Beastro's operations. She describes the robot chef as a valuable addition to the dining team, creating consistency and reducing human error.

"Machines make less mistakes," says Ofer Zinger, co-founder of Kitchen Robotics. "Automation creates consistency that helps businesses prosper."

Apart from its efficiency, Beastro has also contributed to FIU's reputation as a culinary hotspot. The university ranks No. 11 nationally for best college food in America, according to Niche, a website that ranks colleges on various criteria.

Beastro's success has not come without its challenges. Castillo initially faced difficulties in understanding the robot's limitations and programming its recipes. However, once she mastered its operation, she grew fond of the robotic assistant.

"It was something exciting for me, trying something new that nobody [else has]," Castillo said.

Beastro's journey is far from over. Kitchen Robotics aims to scale its operations and bring the robot chef to other universities and commercial kitchens across the country.

"We are looking to scale and we are ready to scale," Zinger said. "Each kitchen is unique, and we tailor Beastro to each kitchen's needs."
