Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren has criticized Amazon's virtual assistant, Alexa, for praising Vice President Kamala Harris while refusing to provide any information on why users should vote for former President Donald Trump. This apparent political bias has sparked concerns about the role of tech giants in shaping public opinion.
Amazon's voice-activated assistant, Alexa, has come under fire for its seemingly partisan responses to questions about the upcoming presidential election. In a viral video, Alexa enthusiastically provided talking points in support of Harris while refusing to give any reasons why users should back Trump. This has raised questions about the political neutrality of tech giants and their potential influence on public discourse.
While videos of Alexa's contrasting answers circulate online, federal donor records reveal a clear preference among Amazon employees. A review of the Federal Election Commission's database shows that Amazon and Blue Origin workers have generously contributed to Vice President Harris's campaign, with Amazon donors alone donating over $1 million during the 2024 election cycle.

This imbalance in political contributions is not isolated to Amazon. Meta employees have directed 87% of their donations to Democrats, and Alphabet (Google's parent company) donors have favored Democrats with 82.23% of their contributions. OpenSecrets notes that these donations are from individuals affiliated with the companies, not from the companies themselves.
Amazon's previous campaign finance patterns have also been consistent with its current bias. During the 2020 election, Amazon workers donated significantly more to Joe Biden than to Donald Trump. This trend is now being replicated in the 2024 race.

Fox News Digital's attempts to elicit an answer from Alexa about why users should vote for Trump were met with refusals. Alexa declined to provide information that could be construed as supporting any political party or its leader. This stance aligns with Amazon's official policy of not endorsing specific candidates or parties.
However, Alexa's willingness to provide a detailed argument for voting for Harris has drawn criticism from conservative commentators like Tomi Lahren, who view it as a form of political censorship. Big Tech companies have faced increasing scrutiny in recent years for allegedly suppressing conservative content and influencing the flow of information, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the controversy, an Amazon spokesperson defended Alexa's behavior, stating that it was an "error that was quickly fixed." However, the incident has prompted questions about the potential for bias in artificial intelligence algorithms and the role of tech companies in shaping public opinion.
As the 2024 presidential race heats up, the neutrality of Big Tech platforms will come under intense scrutiny. The perception that these companies are using their influence to promote certain political views could have profound consequences for the fairness and integrity of the electoral process.
