The annual Tunnel to Towers 5K run and walk, held in New York City, is a symbol of remembrance and gratitude for fallen military service members and first-responders. The event has grown significantly since its inception, attracting over 40,000 participants this year.

Uniformed officers lined the streets of New York City on Sunday, marking the commencement of the 23rd annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk. The event serves as a testament to the resilience and sacrifice of fallen American military personnel and first-responders, honoring their contributions with a poignant commemoration.

The 5K run and walk symbolize the final footsteps of fallen FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller on 9/11, who heroically ran through the Battery Tunnel and into the Twin Towers. This year, the event drew an unprecedented crowd of over 40,000 people, demonstrating the widespread support for the cause.

Frank Siller, CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and brother to Stephen Siller, shared the origins of the event. Billy Codd, a friend of Stephen's, proposed a run through the tunnel to the towers as a tribute to his brother's heroic actions. Overwhelmed with emotion, Frank Siller embraced the idea, leading to the creation of the inaugural event that drew about 1,000 participants.

Stephen Siller Jr., whose father's legacy continues to inspire countless individuals, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support. "It's a beautiful thing," he said. "I feel his presence in my life every day. Because of him, we're able to help so many people, and I'm so grateful for what we were able to make out of his loss."

Frank Siller emphasized that the event extends beyond honoring those who sacrificed on 9/11. It also recognizes the thousands of military personnel who lost their lives in the war on terror and the countless police officers, firefighters, and other first-responders who risk their lives daily across the nation.

"We made a promise that we're going to take care of every single one of them and their families that are left behind, forever," Frank Siller declared.
